Laurent L. Bourbeau, Jr., 72, of Sturbridge, died Monday, May 17, 2010, after a long struggle with cancer, with his wife of 48 years, Carol A. (Monette) Bourbeau, by his side.
He is survived by three sons and their families, all of Sturbridge: David L. Bourbeau; Joel M. Bourbeau, his wife Christine, and their children Patrick, Camille and Gregory; Neal A. Bourbeau, his wife Shelly, and their children Andrew and Adam Ljunggren and Gabrielle Bourbeau; one daughter, Mary L. (Bourbeau) Owens, of Illinois, her husband Kenneth, and their children Robert and Celeste; his father, Laurent L. Bourbeau, Sr. of Fiskdale; three sisters, Charlotte McGlinchy and her husband James of Auburn, Lorette Richer of Brimfield and Aline Pennino of Paxton; one brother, Andre Bourbeau of Holden; a sister-in-law, Marcia Provost of Colorado; close family friend, Alberto Mercado; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice (Whittom) Bourbeau.
Born in Southbridge, Larry lived most of his life in Sturbridge. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Southbridge and proudly served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He held a B.A. from Clark University and a post-graduate degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He worked 24 years at Hyde Tools, retiring in 2001 as Director of Health and Safety. Previously, he worked at American Optical. He also served as Sturbridge Town Assessor in the 1980s.
Larry was an active member of St. Anne’s and St. Patrick’s Parish where he served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and member of various commissions. He served as Chairman of the Parish Council for several years and President of the Men’s Club.
He enjoyed reading, travel, jigsaw puzzles and working in his garden, but he loved his family most of all. He will be missed for his gentle spirit, sense of humor and love of life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, May 21, 2010 from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St. , Southbridge , followed by a funeral Mass held at 10 A.M. at St. Anne’s Church, 16 Church Street, Fiskdale. Burial will follow at Old Notre Dame Cemetery on Charlton Street in Southbridge . Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 20th, from 5:00-7:00PM.
