Biography

Southbridge: Lionel R. Benoit, 89, formerly of Worcester St., died Sunday, March 25th., in the Palmer Healthcare Center, after an illness.
He leaves two nieces, Rose Clark and her husband Richard of West Brookfield and Deborah Provencher and her husband Richard of West Brookfield; three grand nieces, Becky Clark of Dracut, Heather Clark of West Brookfield and Christina Clark of West Brookfield. He was predeceased by a brother Norman Benoit and two sisters, Gertrude Benoit and Estelle Santelli. He was born in Southbridge the son of Marcel and Parmelia (St. Martin) Benoit.
Lionel served 21 years in the US Navy retiring many years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He also served on the US Navy's first nuclear submarine. Lionel loved sports of all kinds and enjoyed walking.
A private graveside service will be held for Lionel in St. Mary's Cemetery, Southbridge. There are no calling hours.
The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
