Ernest Tucker

Ernest G. Tucker succumbed to cancer, on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at his home in Sturbridge, in the company of his loving family. He lived his 77 years with style and his own brand of humor. He brought much joy to his family and friends with his infectious smile and laughter.
He was predeceased by his beloved mother Mary Josephine MacKenzie and uncle, Jeremiah Tucker. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen (Sullivan) Tucker and his children: Terry Jean DePierri and her partner, David Norberg of Charlton; Michael E. Tucker and his wife Janet, of Easthampton, MA; Dennis G. Tucker and his wife, Heidi, of Charlton; H. Laurie Degnan and her husband, Paul of Charlton; and Thomas Nelson Tucker at Horace Mann in North Grafton.
He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Peter, Dennis and Matthew DePierri; Joshua Tucker; Brian, Jason, Dillon and Kelsey Tucker; and Patrick and Timothy Degnan.
He also leaves his sister, Jeanette Hobson and niece, Linda McKay of South Carolina, and nephew Richard Hobson of Maryland.
Born on January 5, 1931 and raised in Maryland, Ernie then served in the Air Force for six years from 1948-1954, serving his country during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal; the National Defense medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He and Mary Ellen first lived in Larchmont and then Yorktown Heights, New York. They relocated to Charlton and Sturbridge, where they have made their home for the past 48 years.
Ernie worked for more than 43 years in the construction business, including long tenures at Henry Camosse & Son Masonry; the F. W. Madigan Company, and the R.W. Granger Company. He was a member of the Lions Club and various industry groups.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Oak Ridge Ave., Southbridge. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 13, 2008 from 5-8 PM at the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge.
