Southbridge: Robert J. Shaw, 77, of 68 Bruce Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 11th, in the Overlook Masonic Health Care Center, Charlton, after an illness.
His wife, Wanda S. (Boksa) Shaw, died in 2004. He leaves several nieces and nephews. He was born in Southbridge the son of James W. and Mary (Coughlin) Shaw. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War, II. He was a graduate of Mary E. Wells High School in Southbridge where he excelled in sports and was a 12 letterman. While at Mary E. Wells High School he was the captain of the baseball team his senior year and was captain of the basketball team his junior and senior years. He was inducted into the Southbridge Hall of Fame.
Bob was a general foreman for Pratt & Whitney for many years and was a member of its Quarter Century Club. He was a member of St. Hedwig's Church in Southbridge. He was a long time member of Cohasse Country Club in Southbridge. He was past President of Cohasse C.C., served on its Board of Governors for 25 years and as its Golf Chairman for 20 years.
Bob played semi-pro baseball with the Polish Tigers during the 1950's & 1960's. He was a player and manager of the Southbridge Trucking Softball Team witch won the Webster-Southbridge Community League in 1955.
His funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 15th, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 11:00am in St. Hedwig's Church, Everett St., Southbridge. Burial in St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Southbridge, will be at a later date. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Monday, Jan. 15th, from 8:30 to 10:30am before the Mass.
