Obituary

Southbridge: Bernice "Bonnie" (Funk) Bridges, 97, a resident of Rosemeade Apartments, passed away in her sleep on March 8 th .  She was living at home and in a hospice setting at the time. She had been attended to by her son, Jeffrey Ferrannini of Roslindale and her daughter, Deb Donahue of Brimfield.  She also leaves behind Deb's husband Leo and their children Clayton and Quinnen Donahue.

Bernice was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1922.  She worked as an executive Secretary for several companies.  She was married to Ralph Ferrannini and later to Robert Bridges.  After Robert's death she moved to Sun City Center in Florida.  She loved tennis and travel.  She played tennis every chance she got.  She traveled to England to attend Wimbledon one year and traveled to France to see the French Open.  She also saw a US Open match in Flushing Meadows, NY.  Her favorite players were Serena Williams and Roger Federer.

While in Florida, Bernice was an active crafter.  She learned how to make artistic baskets; she won first prize one year for her flower composition in the Arrangers, a local flower arranging group; she greatly enjoyed being a member of the French club; and she was a prominent member of a quilting club in Sun City Center.  One of her proudest moments was when her quilting club completed and sent a quilt of appreciation to Fire Engine Company 14 in Manhattan, NYC after 9/11.  Bonnie also created pillow design to go with the quilt on which she wrote in fabric pen, 'We Honor You All.'

The family would like to thank many organizations whose dedicated individuals make Bernice's last years a pleasure and who helped her to remain in her home as was her wish.  Thanks to Tri-Valley Elder Services, the Samaritans, Meals-on-Wheels, Independence Health Care, Southern Worcester County Visiting Nurses and Hospice, Overlook VNA, the Southbridge Fire Department and Rosemeade personnel.  You are all wonderful at what you do.

Her life will be celebrated in a small family gathering.  There are no calling hours.

Her family request to please omit flowers and donations.

The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
