Holland
Holland: Catherine Keefe, 66, of North Barry Dr., passed away after a two-year battle with cancer on Saturday, Nov. 19 th .
Cathy was born in Derby, Conn., the daughter of the late John P. and Helen V. (Hogan) Keefe. She grew up in a close-knit community in Shelton, Conn. and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1975. After high school, she and some of her close friends drove to Berkely, Calif. to experience "the scene" and liked it so much they remained there for several years. She moved back to the Boston area in 1979 where she got into the folk music scene, worked in childcare and met her future husband at "The Terrace" apartments.
The couple moved to Boulder, Colo. a few years later where Cathy enrolled at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Their first son, Jimi, was born in Boulder in 1984. Missing family and friends, they moved back to Massachusetts, eventually settling in Holland, where she spent the last 35 years enjoying the beach on Hamilton Reservoir and raising her family. She fought a heroic two-year battle with sarcoma and died peacefully next to her husband on the morning of her youngest son's wedding.
Cathy earned a bachelor's degree from Worcester State College and a master's degree in Education from Cambridge College. She worked as a preschool teacher at both Brimfield and Holland Elementary schools and as director of the childcare program at the Tri-Community YMCA in Southbridge for many years. She was an adjunct professor at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, teaching Early Childhood Education.
She enjoyed travel of any kind, swimming in all types of water and seasons, music, yoga, reading, spending time with her many friends, her large extended family and her dogs; being a
grandma, eating Mexican food and spontaneous adventures of all sorts. Her smile, strength and enjoyment of every day she lived will forever be remembered and live on in all who knew her.
She leaves her husband of 38 years, Jack Mulvehill; two sons, Jimi K. Mulvehill and his wife Emily Dumas of Worcester and Corey K. Mulvehill and his wife Alexa Hadfield of Boston; two sisters, Mary Terlizzi of Brewster and Margaret Keefe of Danville, Vt.; a granddaughter, Ronnie Rose Mulvehill; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elaine Keefe.
