Obituary

Auburn/Southbridge: Catherine R. (McMahon) Svedberg, 90, formerly of Southbridge, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9th, at Brookdale Eddy Pond East, Auburn.

Her husband of 54 years, Carl E. Svedberg, Jr., passed away in 2009.  She leaves her son, Shane A. Svedberg and his wife Marianne of Worcester; her three daughters, Kathleen Bastien of Worcester, Carlene Simpson of Williamstown, WV and Christine Altiery and her husband James of Dudley; her 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Her sister, Patricia A. McMahon, passed away on Sept. 7th, just a day before Catherine.  She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Harry J. McMahon, Jr. and Bernard McMahon and her sister, Margaret Bousquet-Provost.  Catherine was born in Southbridge, the daughter of Harry J. and Margaret M. (Maquire) McMahon.

Catherine began her working life as a Postal Carrier at the Southbridge Post Office, where she worked from 1966 to 1972. She then began a long and fulfilling career at Southbridge Savings Bank, now Cornerstone Bank, where she remained until her retirement in 1998.

Catherine was a longtime and devoted member of Charlton Baptist Church in Charlton, where her faith and her church community held a special place in her heart. She had a wonderful gift for baking, and one of the ways she shared her love was through the many delicious treats she lovingly made for family and friends. Her baking was more than just something she enjoyed—it was a way of showing people how much she cared.

Catherine found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved shopping, enjoying good food, and, most of all, spending precious time with the people she loved. She treasured her family and friends and created countless warm and happy memories with them.

Above all, Catherine was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, generosity, faith, and love touched the lives of so many. She will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the love she gave so freely and the special place she held in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
