Obituary

Charlton/East Sandwich: Clara (Ludwin) Demers, 88, formerly of East Sandwich, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21st, at the UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, Mass, after a brief illness.

Her husband of more than 65 years, Norman E. Demers, passed away on Aug. 6, 2022.  She leaves her two sons, Jeffrey N. Demers and his wife Diane Marie McNamara of Sharon, VT and Peter E. Demers and his wife Carol Barker of Westfield, NJ; her two sisters, Helen Santilli of Charlton and Florence Jedrzynski of Charlton; her five grandchildren, Eric Demers and his fiancé, Alexandra Tinfow, Abigail Demers, Grace Demers, Emma Demers and Allie Demers; and several nieces and nephews.  She was born in Southbridge, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Ziobro) Ludwin.  Clara lived in Windsor Locks, CT, for many years and lived the last 20 years on Cape Cod.  Clara and Norm loved their little cottage on the Cape.  Clara and Norman also enjoyed spending many winters in Tarpon Springs, FL, with family and friends.

Clara worked for Travelers Insurance in Hartford for over 10 years, retiring many years ago.  She was a member of Corpus Christi Church in East Sandwich.  She loved going to the beach with her beach buddies and Norm.  She especially enjoyed having her annual big gathering of family at her home on the Cape on the fourth of July which included an annual trip to Fenway Park to see her beloved Red Sox. She had a love for painting during her retirement years, especially on rocks she and her grandchildren would collect from the beach. When her grandkids were younger, they would spend a week with their grandparents in the summer, going to the beach, summer camps and the Heritage museum.  The grandkids always looked forward to their birthday shopping day during their summer stay with grammy and grampy.  Many memories were made at the Cape Cod cottage and the Donut Shop.

A funeral Mass for Clara will be held on Saturday, April 6th, at 10:00am in Notre Dame Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, 446 Main St., Southbridge.  Burial will follow in St. Anne's Cemetery, Sturbridge.  There are no calling hours.
