Taunton / Ware: Garifalia (Pappas) Mavrikidis, 81, of Taunton, formerly of Ware, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20th, in her home after a long illness.

Her husband of 47 years, Sokrates N. Mavrikidis, passed away in 2014. She leaves her two sons, Nickolas S. Mavrikidis and George S. Mavrikidis, both of Taunton. She was predeceased by her brother, James and her two sisters, Irene and Mary. Garifalia was born in Orchomenos, Greece, the daughter of George and Athanasia (Zografou) Pappas, moving to the United States many years ago. She lived in Ware for many years, moving to Taunton within the past 10 years.

Garifalia was a teacher’s assistant at the Ware Middle School in Ware for over 10 years, retiring many years ago. She also worked with her husband, Sokrates in their pizza restaurant, The Acropolis Pizza, for 37 years. She was active with her church, St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Southbridge, as a member of it’s Philoptochos Society and cooking for various church events. She loved gardening and was often found working around the outside of her home. She also enjoyed doing crafts, especially knitting, needle work and quilting. She also taught knitting.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28th, at 11:00am in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 55 North St., Southbridge. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge. There are no calling hours.
