George B.
Volungis
Dec 30, 1943 — Apr 18, 2026
Sturbridge
George B. Volungis, 82, of Sturbridge, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Judith Ann (Laperriere) Volungis, who died in 2020. He leaves his son, Adam M. Volungis, and his wife, Yeonjoo Son, of Rutland, and his cherished grandson, Kai Volungis.
George was born in Worcester, the son of Adam C. Volungis and Michalena (Lebednick) Volungis. He graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
George dedicated more than 50 years of his life to his work as a Medical Technologist at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester before retiring. He loved his work deeply and took tremendous pride in all he accomplished during his long career at Saint Vincent's. He was known for his warm, friendly nature and his gift for conversation, never hesitating to connect with others, even strangers.
More than anything, George was a devoted family man. He and his wife, Judith, knew hardship from an early age, and both worked hard through life's challenges to build a stable and loving home for their family. Together, they made many sacrifices to provide for their son and to give him opportunities they may not always have had themselves. That quiet devotion, generosity, and steady love were among George's greatest gifts.
George was an avid collector of coins, stamps, and cards. He also enjoyed relaxing with his family and watching old movies together. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with those he loved most, especially his grandson, Kai, who brought him tremendous joy.
George was also a devout Catholic who did his best to live the life Christ taught, caring for others with quiet compassion, generosity, and love.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 23, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, 16 Church Street, Sturbridge. Burial will follow in St. Anne's Cemetery, Sturbridge. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday, April 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George's name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741
