Southbridge: John W. "Jack" Haight,  passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 9 ^th at the age of 70, in the St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Worcester, after a long illness.

Jack was born in Englewood, NJ the son of the late Charles F. and Christina N. (Rolf) Haight. Jack grew up in Brewster, NY, played several sports, and was prom king at North Salem High School. Jack was a graduate of Paul Smith College where he studied Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Jack was passionate about his work, leading and managing a variety restaurants and food services over a thirty-eight year career.  His most important work came with Spirits, his restaurant in Sturbridge as well Corporate Chefs where he was a highly successful Manager for many years.

Jack believed in helping others. An avid volunteer, Jack spent his time in retirement working with the Washburn Hospice Residence of Worcester.  He also spent time fundraising for the Patient Advocacy Committee of Harrington Hospital.

Jack enjoyed his trains, being an amateur Santa and watching his Green Bay Packers.  His love of reading and his dogs brought him happiness. Jack loved having a big family. He could always be found behind a grill or stove, telling the same stories with greater enthusiasm each time and feeding his many friends and loved ones.  His bright spirit and happy demeanor was magnetic and will be missed by all.

Jack leaves his beloved wife of 30 years, Elizabeth (Morris) Haight; his six children,

Carrie Haight Marks of Los Angeles CA; Jesse Carmichael and wife Nicole, of Enfield CT; Matthew Haight and wife Amie of Gill, Angela Penny of Charlton, Enrique Polletta and his wife Arlynn of Fairlee, VT; Anthony Polletta and his wife Amy of Oxford; a brother, Charles Haight. Jacks greatest joy was his nine grandchildren, Ryan Lidwell, Dominic Penny, Mia Carmichael, Grace Haight, Wyatt Polletta, Adeline Polletta, Anthony Polletta IV, Madison Haight and Jack Haight.

His family would like to express sincere gratitude for the care he received at Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

A calling hour for Jack will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20 ^th , from 10:00 to 11:00am in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a funeral service to follow in the funeral home at 11:00am.  Burial will be private.
