Obituary

Sturbridge: Louis "Lou" Desrosiers, III, 71, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, Massachusetts, surrounded and held by loved ones.   Lou was a man whose life was guided by love, and he touched the hearts of many through his compassion, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family and his community.

Born on September 5, 1953, in Webster to Louis and Pearl Desrosiers, Lou grew up with a strong sense of family and a deep appreciation for music and learning. From an early age, he displayed a zest for life that would carry him through a remarkable journey filled with diverse passions and accomplishments.

In his younger years, Lou lived as a world-traveling musician and D.J., sharing his love for rhythm and melody across continents. Music remained a central thread throughout his life. In later years, he transitioned from being a drummer to becoming a self-taught bassist. He found great joy in jamming with close friends and family, especially as he passed on his musical talents to his four grandchildren—Alanna, Shannon, Robert, and Stella—teaching them to play drums, guitar, and bass guitar.

Lou's thirst for knowledge led him back to school where he earned his credentials as a licensed pharmacist. He served in this role for many years with dedication and care for the patients he treated. Never one to be confined by a single path, Lou also became a professional photographer while working as a pharmacist. His creativity extended beyond the lens; he was known for being remarkably handy—able to fix or install just about anything around the house or yard.

He was caring and supportive to those around him. Lou cherished his wife, Bonnie Desrosiers; their bond was one of enduring love and mutual respect.  He was a devoted father to daughters Morgan Stanhope and her husband Jesse, and Tammy Kelly and her husband Rob. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy and purpose. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling dad jokes and sharing stories with his family and friends.  Lou also shared close ties with his brother Joe Desrosiers, and nephew Shawn Bickford and his wife Patty.  He is survived by his brothers Joseph Desrosiers and Richard Desrosiers, as well as nieces and nephews.

Lou's life was not without hardship. He faced the loss of his parents Louis and Pearl Desrosiers; his sister Sandy Bickford; and nephew Dalton Bickford. Yet even in grief—and later during his own six-month battle with cancer—he remained steadfast in grace, courage, dignity, and gratitude for the blessings still present in his life.

Those who knew Lou remember him as thoughtful, kind-hearted, determined, compassionate—and above all—a man who loved deeply. Whether through music sessions with close friends and grandchildren or quiet moments fixing something around the house, Lou created lasting memories rooted in connection.

In his final months, Lou continued teaching those closest to him—not through words alone but through example: showing how to live fully even when time is short; how to face adversity with strength; how to love without condition. His legacy is one of deep connection and love of his family and friends.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue inspiring acts of love for generations to come.
