Obituary

Charlton: Maureen F. (Drake) Ryczek, 81, of Brookfield Rd., passed on Saturday, December 30th at UMass Memorial Hospital – Harrington, after an illness.

Her beloved husband of several years, Robert T. Ryczek died on Nov. 17th, 2023. She leaves her daughter, Karen Jansen of Charlton; her three grandchildren, Cassandra Buck, Jonathan Leduc, and Patricia Fishwick; and her eight great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Kelsey, Isabelle, Riley, Jacoby, Jameson, Lillian, and Lorelei. She also leaves behind two brothers, Michael Drake & Dennis Drake. Maureen was predeceased by her son, Russell Carlson, on Nov. 6th, 2023, and her two brothers, Ralph "Buddy" Drake, Jr., and Brian Drake.

Maureen, the cherished matriarch of her family, was born in Worcester, the daughter of Ralph F. and Nora M. (Casey) Drake. A former waitress, she owned Drake's Spa and later worked at Annie's Country Kitchen in Sturbridge before retiring, many years ago.

Known for her vibrant personality, her compassion extended far beyond serving at work; Maureen loved having family over, ensuring everyone was taken care of with warmth and hospitality. In recent years, her quick wit & personality remained strong – a source of laughter and candid moments for all.

Maureen and her husband, Robert, cherished their time as snowbirds, traveling to Port Charlotte, Florida to bask in the sun, lounge by the pool, and spend time with their friends and family. Maureen's home was always open to guests; most recently she hosted Christmas dinner. She doted on her grandkids, and later on her great-grandkids, and was always up for a visit; her home was full of toys to play with and a drawer full of snacks. She loved her dog Snuggles, almost as much as her daily, "toast and tea."  Maureen will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who filled the lives of those around her with joy and laughter.

Maureen's funeral services and burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Southbridge, will be private. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Maureen's spirit by "paying it forward" with a good deed or donation to a cause close to their hearts.
