Morgan E.
Gager
Apr 17, 1931 — Jul 7, 2026
Charlton
Charlton: Morgan E. Gager, 95, passed away on Tuesday, July 7th, at The Overlook Health Center, Charlton, MA, after a brief illness.
His wife of 67 years, Nancy L. (Spinner) Gager, passed away on Jan. 29, 2025. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen M. Gager of Warwick, RI and Susan E. Doe and her husband David of Charlton; his grandchildren, Emily Clark of Apex, NC, Nathan Doe of Charlton, and Caroline Swale of Jordan, Ontario, Canada; and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Donella (Gager) Collins of Bryon Center, MI and his nephew, Brad Clarke of Caledonia, MI.
Morgan was born in Hastings, MI, the son of Donald E. and Vella D. (Hough) Gager. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Michigan State University.
Morgan had a successful career as a chemist, later focusing on polymer chemistry. He worked for Arkwright, Inc. in Fiskeville, RI (formerly TWT Labs of Lexington, MA) for 20 years before retiring in 1995. He previously worked for Scott Graphics in South Hadley, MA and General Electric's training program for recent college graduates. He was awarded twelve U.S. patents during his career, four of which he was named the sole inventor. Since the age of twenty-one, he was a member of the American Chemical Society; something that he took pride in.
Morgan approached life with purpose (and the scientific method!). In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, a skill shared with him by his father with whom he built the family's cottage on Pickeral Lake in Michigan. And his interest in geothermal energy, led him to build a geothermal house which became a model for promoting the use of this technology for residential homes. At The Overlook, he regularly volunteered to visit residents in the Health Center and was instrumental, along with his wife, in establishing a Spiritual Circle on campus. Recently, he was honoured as one of the Founders of the Overlook Independent Living facility at a luncheon celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Those who knew Morgan, described him as humble, gentle, helpful, genuine, caring, thoughtful and wise. He was a devoted and faithful father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He and his wife, Nancy, moved to Charlton after retirement to be closer to their three grandchildren and to be intentional grandparents. His Christian faith was an integral part of his life and shown through his kindness to others. Most recently, he was a long-time member of the Charlton Baptist Church in Charlton, MA.
A memorial service for Morgan will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:00 am in The Overlook Chapel, 88 Masonic Home Rd., Charlton, MA. A collation luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse for international disaster relief at samaritanspurse.org or to the American Chemical Society for programs to provide opportunities for students & practitioners to advance chemistry at acs.org/donate .
The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
