Sturbridge: Ronald J. Uminski, 83, of Betsy Ross Circle, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5th, in the UMass Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Aldea G. (Bourgea) Uminski; his two daughters, Laurel Garry and her husband Michael of Woodstock, CT and Jill Assadourian and her husband Malcolm of Rutland; his brother, Stephen Uminski, Jr. of Worcester; his four grandchildren, Stephanie Assadourian, Colin Garry and his wife Keri, Adam Assadourian and Mackenzie Patterson and her husband Brandon; and his five great grandchildren, Tatum, Ryan, Matthew 'Sonny', Luke and Nora who were the light of his life. Ron was looking forward to rounding out his tribe with great grand baby number six arriving in May. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Ferriaoulo. He was born in Worcester the son of Stephen and Agnes (Anderson) Uminski, Sr and was a graduate of Worcester Trade School.
Ron proudly served 28 years as a Massachusetts State Trooper, retiring many years ago. While serving with the State Police he worked undercover in conjunction with the DEA, an assignment he worked very hard at and took very great pride in. After retiring he worked as a Private Investigator for 3 years. He also served 6 years in the US Coast Guard Reserves.
Ron was most proud of his family, always putting the needs of those around him first. Ron's love for his wife was beyond measure and served as an example of true love. Ron was a sports enthusiast, he loved the Patriots, boxing and encouraged and admired all those who tried hard. Our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend will be missed forever, but his spirit of love and positivity will live on in all who loved him.
A calling hour for Ronald will be held on Friday, Jan. 10th, from 12:00 to 1:00pm in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a funeral service to follow in the funeral home at 1:00pm. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers Ronald's family requests in his memory to do something kind for a fellow human.
