Sturbridge: Solange E. "Sally" (Petit) Ballard, 91, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 1 ^st , in her home after a long illness.

Her husband, Arthur O. Ballard, passed away in 2009.  She leaves her three daughters, Patricia A. Ballard and her husband Gabriel Acevedo of Fiskdale, Louise M. Schweinler of Sylva, NC and Rachel T. Barendregt and her husband Ron of Plumpton, NSW, Australia; her sister, Clara Morin of Southbridge; her eight grandchildren, Sergio Acevedo Martinez, Sara Barendregt, Amanda Barendregt, Tori Barendregt, Travis Barendregt, Logan Barendregt, Georgie Schweinler and Stormy Schweinler; and nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her two brothers, Ernest Petit and Leo Petit and her sister, Helen Petit.  Sally was born in Southbridge the daughter of Donat and Clementine (LaRiviere) Petit.

Sally was a legal secretary for many years, working for Attorney Steve Liro, Attorney Sam Normandin and the law office of O'Shaughnessy and Cournoyer.  She also owned and operated the Ballard Smoke House Restaurant in Fiskdale from 1970 to 1981.  She was a member of the Southbridge Women's Club.  She enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, doing crafts and was an avid bird watcher.  All of her interest she enjoyed sharing with her daughters. Sally loved her dogs, Simon, Bridget, Maggie and Buddy.

Sally's funeral services and burial will be private.  There are no calling hours.

The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
