Obituary for: Susan J. Lanning

Union, CT: Susan J. (Oster) Lanning, 69, passed away on Sunday, July 25 ^th , in the Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after a long illness.

Her husband and best friend of 38 years, Benjamin J. Lanning, passed away in 2016.  She leaves her stepson, Joshua J. Lanning and his son Bentley of Maine; three brothers, William Oster of Dayville, CT, Steven Oster and his companion Tina Panczyk of Southbridge, MA and Carlton Lee Oster and his companion Rebecca Wells Garrett of Holland, MA; four sisters, Rose Teena Plourde of Stafford Springs, CT, Carolyn Larabee and her companion Jim Marocco of North Adams, MA, Mary Pollier and her husband Robert of Hardwick, MA and Gloria Galica and her husband John of Stafford Springs, CT; and many nieces and nephews.  She also leaves her two beloved dogs, Barney and Bojangles.  Her stepson, Benjamin J. Lanning, passed away in 2008.  She was also predeceased by her brother Roy Oster.  Sue was born in North Adams, MA the daughter of the late Levi F. and June I. (Estes) Oster.

Sue was an office manager for Clifford B. Green & Sons Construction in Danielson, CT for many years and was working till recently.  She previously worked for Keenan & Navarro Builders in Danielson, CT and worked as a bookkeeper for the Publick House Restaurant in Sturbridge for 25 years.

Susan had a great sense of humor, a generous heart and a love of life.  After her mother passed away, as the oldest child of nine, she took on the role of family matriarch with great pride.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Aug. 13 ^th , at 11:00am in the Holland Cemetery, Holland, MA.  There are no calling hours.

The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
